Abstract:Chitosan is one of the biopolymers that has recently been developed in the medical field. Chitosan is biocompatible, biodegradable, and non-toxic, so it is safe for the human body. This study aimed to identify the characteristics of chitosan isolated from pearl oyster shells. Chitosan is obtained through three stages: deproteination, demineralization, and deacetylation. Characterization of chitosan is done physically and chemically including organoleptic test, yield calculation in each step of isolation, FTIR,… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
