Fabrication of bimetallic Pt/Pd nanoparticles on 2-thiolbenzimidazole functionalized reduced graphene oxide for methanol oxidation

Abstract: In this study, an electrocatalyst based on 2-thiolbenzimidazole (TBI) functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with platinum and palladium nanoparticles (PtPdNPs) was synthesized. The successful synthesis of nanomaterials and the prepared glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surfaces were confirmed by transmission electron microscope, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction method. The effective surface areas of TBIrGO/GCE, PdNPs… Show more

“…The rGO has the similar characteristics of the graphene nanosheets, i. e., the singular two‐dimensional structure formed by few layers of sp 2 carbon atoms, in a π‐conjugated system leading to high electron mobility and fast charge transfer allowing in the appearance of an electrocatalytic effect . The rGO act as a support for the immobilization of several species that can be used as platform for development of fuel cells , sensors , biosensors , and immunosensor .…”

“…GO is popular amongst nanomaterial hybrids including gold nanoparticles on polyoxometalate/reduced graphene oxide used as biosensors (35, 36). Nanomaterial-based electrochemical sensing of neurological drugs utilizing a hybrid of bimetallic Platinum-Palladium (Pt/Pd) nanoparticles on 2-thiolbenzimidazole functionalized reduced graphene oxide provided a significantly greater electrochemical surface area compared to other conventional electrodes used (32). Other GO based sensors have also been used for similar reasons (3743).…”

“…Hence, we can say that GQDs/f-MWCNTs/GCE in this study has more effective poisoning-tolerance for DMFCs in comparison with bulk Cu and Cu-NDs electrodes [46]. Graphene oxide and core-shell nanoparticle based modified electrodes were fabricated for methanol oxidation [47][48][49][50].…”
