Fabrication of anisotropic janus composite particles based on natural renewable urushiol

Abstract: Urushiol praseodymium‐polystyrene (UPr‐PS) Janus composite particles were synthesized by emulsion swelling assisted protruding from UPr/PS core‐shell composite microspheres. The effects of sulfonated time and the outer electronic configuration of metal on the shell of urushiol metal/PS composite microspheres, together with the effects of monomer type, monomer dosage and swelling time on the swelling behaviour, were studied. The morphology, chemical composition and thermal performance of UPr/PS core‐shell compo… Show more

“…Urushiol, a long‐chain hydrocarbon phenol from lacquer sap, is a mixture of 3‐alkyl‐substituted catechol derivatives with n = 15 linear carbon chains containing 0–3 olefins, together with other minor phenolic liquids, such as those having n = 17 carbon chains. [ 25‐28 ] Scheme 1 shows a typical structure of urushiol. [ 25 ] The compound is obtained through the extraction of lacquer sap from the trees Rhus vernicifera (China, Korea, and Japan), Rhus succedanea (North Vietnam and Formosa), and Melanorrhoea usitate (Thailand and Burma).…”

“…5 Since then, the synthesis and properties of Janus latex particles have developed rapidly. 6 According to the different raw materials, Janus latex particles can be divided into polymers 7,8 and polymer/ inorganic composites. 9 The polymer/inorganic Janus latex particles are particularly attractive group of Janus due to the multifunctional hybrid composition.…”
