Fabrication of a GNP/Fe–Mg Binary Oxide Composite for Effective Removal of Arsenic from Aqueous Solution

Abstract: Graphene nanoplates (GNPs) can be used as a platform for homogeneous distribution of adsorbent nanoparticles to improve electron exchange and ion transport for heavy-metal adsorption. In this study, we report a facile thermal decomposition route to fabricate a graphene-supported Fe–Mg oxide composite. The prepared composite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Batch experi… Show more

“…This adsorbent showed a very high adsorption capacity toward arsenic [43]. In continuation of our efforts to this end, herein we report a simple one-pot hydrothermal method to prepare a graphene nanoplates-supported spinel CuFe 2 O 4 (GNPs/CuFe 2 O 4 ) composite.…”

“…In our previous work, we successfully fabricated a graphene nanoplates (GNPs) -supported Fe-Mg binary oxide composite by a simple hydrothermal method. This adsorbent showed a very high adsorption capacity toward arsenic [ 43 ]. In continuation of our efforts to this end, herein we report a simple one-pot hydrothermal method to prepare a graphene nanoplates-supported spinel CuFe 2 O 4 (GNPs/CuFe 2 O 4 ) composite.…”

“…But still, the separation and regenerative ability of nanoparticles is a concern [ 12 ]. Several adsorbents have been reported to adsorb arsenic effectively with a focus shifting towards metal oxide based sorbents such as titanium [ 13 ], aluminum [ 14 ], zirconium [ 15 ], iron [ 16 ], and so forth. Among these, iron based sorbents were extensively studied due to greater affinity, cost effectiveness and environmental suitability [ 17 ].…”

“…Graphene, a two-dimensional (2D) carbon material with substantial mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, has been extensively used in a wide range of industrial applications in the fields of engineering, chemistry, and physics [4,[25][26][27][28][29][30]. Additionally, the 2D structures easily slide together, making graphene an effective additive for lowering the friction in mechanical parts and vehicle engines [31][32][33][34].…”
