Fabrication and measurement of a flexoelectric micro-pyramid composite

Abstract: A fabrication method by combining precision mechanical dicing and wet etching was developed to prepare micro-pyramid structures based on (Ba0.67Sr0.33)TiO3 ceramics. The effective piezoelectric properties of flexoelectric pyramid structures in ten micrometers scale were investigated and measured through converse flexoelectric effect. The scaling effect of the flexoelectric response was demonstrated as the structure size shrinks down. The results do suggest the great potential of flexoelectric micro pyramids as… Show more

“…[26] Based on that, a group of studies were conducted on the flexoelectricity of BST-based ceramics. [27][28][29] Although ceramic materials can exhibit a relatively large flexoelectricity coefficient 12 (1.4−10 µC m −1 ), generating a large strain gradient remains a challenge. Due to their flexibility and capability of gen-erating a large strain, piezoelectric polymers have attracted considerable attention in this research area.…”

“…Studies suggest that the so-called flexoelectric piezoelectric composites can generate large effective piezoelectric response. Several types of flexoelectric piezoelectric composites have been realised experimentally [21,28,41,58,[66][67][68][69]. The first type is the composite with the truncated pyramid structure, as shown in Fig.…”
