Fabrication and evaluation of aramid fiber/polytetrafluoroethylene emulsion/tourmaline particle composite filter media: Filtration performance, thermal behavior, and mechanical property

Abstract: An electrostatically enhanced aramid fiber/polytetrafluoroethylene emulsion/tourmaline particle (AF/PTFE/TM) composite filter media was successfully designed and fabricated by impregnation technology, especially for harsh industrial environment with high temperature. The AF/PTFE/TM composite filter media exhibited the optimum quality factor when the concentration of PTFE emulsion was 10% and the content of TM particles was 12.5 g/cm2. The collection efficiency, pressure drop characteristic, thermal decompositi… Show more

“…Researchers have explored various air filtration materials, including zeolites, 11,12 carbon nanotubes, 13 nanofiber materials, 14,15 nonwoven textiles, 16 and needle‐felt materials 17 . Zeolite serves as a natural filtering medium that can effectively adsorb airborne odors and harmful gases, such as formaldehyde.…”

“…PTFE emulsion is often used for dipping post-treatment of fabrics to entrust the fabric PTFE excellent properties such as abrasion resistance and hydrophobicity. [20][21][22][23] The adhesion between PTFE emulsion and the substrate is low, and the filter has poor abrasion resistance, resulting in a short reusable time. Additionally, due to its large pore size and high porosity, dust easily enters the filter, making it difficult to clean the dust and leading to high residual pressure.…”
