“…However, from the perspective for magnet applications, multifilamentary round wire is strongly preferred for easy handling, isotropic performance and reduced ac loss. Several cabling techniques have been developed for REBCO coated conductors to produce suitable conductors for magnet builders with varying levels of success 41, 42 . The cabling unavoidably compromises the J e advantage of REBCO coated conductors because of the need for mechanical support.…”

“…Such a conductor layout, see figure 2 left, has been christened CORC (Conductor On Round Core) and has been realized in several short sample prototype with indus trial cabling tools, see [43] for a review. A further reduction of the tape thickness, down to 65 µm including copper coating, allows assembling miniature CORC with only 1.6 mm diam eter [44]. A single CORC assembly with a few tens of tapes, is not adequate to carry very high current in field.…”

“…The configuration of a helical tape is used for CORC R [17,26,28,29] and other round cables [30,31]. The base curve for this configuration is a circular helix X = (r cos t, r sin t, p t), (6) where the radius r is the sum of the former radius and half of the tape thickness; t is the parameter in radian and 2πp is the pitch length.…”
