“…This will further enhance the already existing O 2 related depletion layer. Thus, the Au NPs can play important roles in reducing the dark current, enhancing the sensitivity and improving the response speed of the ZnO based thin film photoconductors 19 20 . The very small amount of the Au NPs with small sizes (2–4 nm in diameter) on the ZnO film have negligible absorption, reflection/scattering for the incident visible light.…”

“…Compared with that of HT‐0 (Figure 3b), the amplified SEM image of PHT‐1 clearly shows a vertical chain composed of regularly arranged clusters with the average diameter equivalent to 159 nm in the cross section (Figure 3e); moreover, 8.40% high iron element appears in the white rectangle box of PHT‐1 measured by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) (Figure 3f). The peak at 2 keV in Figure 3c,f is assigned to the gold element, [ 22 ] which is derived from the sputter‐coated gold on the surface of freeze‐dried gel samples. Similar to the EDS results, there is no iron element existing in dried HT‐0 gel that is detected by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS); however, PHT‐1 gel contained only 0.17% of iron element as shown in Table S2, Supporting Information.…”

“…In general by augmenting the catalyst in the described way the electron-hole pair recombinations are suppressed leading to a better photocatalytic performance [ 34 ]. Many efforts have been put into synthesizing semiconductor-noble metal nanocomposite materials in the recent years [ 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. The advantages of Au over other noble metals has been reviewed and discussed [ 40 ] in terms of preparation methods, band offsets between ZnO and Au, photoluminescence properties, structural configurations of Au/ZnO, morphologically determined reactivity, dynamics of charge carriers, and photocatalytic reaction mechanisms associated with Au/ZnO.…”
