Fabrication and Characterization of Jute Fabric-Reinforced PVC-based Composite

Abstract: Jute fabrics (hessian cloth) reinforced polyvinyl chloride (PVC) based composites were prepared by compression molding. Jute content varied from 40-60 wt% in the composites. Four layers of jute fabrics were compression molded with five layers of PVC. It was found that the composite containing 40% jute fabrics showed the best performance. The values of tensile strength (TS), bending strength (BS), tensile modulus (TM), and bending modulus (BM) of the composite (40 wt% jute fabrics) were found to be 59.3 MPa, 62… Show more

“…In comparison to glass-reinforced polyester, hybrid composite showed increased flexural strength by 15.32-18.94% than glass fiber-reinforced composites and 34.06-24.71% in comparison to jutereinforced polyester composite [67]. A number of thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers have been studied as binding materials with jute such as jute fiber reinforced with low-density polyethylene [68], starch-based composite [69], unsaturated polyester [70], epoxy composites [71], jute fabric-reinforced polyvinyl composites [72], poly(butylene succinate) [73], and polypropylene [63].…”

“…tossa and white), raw fabric condition (i.e., bleached and unbleached) and fabric construction (i.e., weave design and yarn density). As it can be seen in Table 1 that the reproducibility of these works is very much limited as all of them except Khan et al, [24] did not mention any of the vital information about fibre type, fabric structure and raw fabric condition. Therefore, it is challenging to compare the results of various studies available in the literature.…”

“…A Figura 4 apresenta os resultados do ensaio de resistência à tração na ruptura das amostras sem e com os diferentes teores de resíduo, onde observa-se um decréscimo do valor da propriedade na medida em que aumenta o teor de carga. Este resultado está de acordo com a literatura que descreve que a resistência à tração está vinculada à qualidade da interface carga/matriz [23]. Neste caso, verifica-se um comportamento convergente entre as propriedades quanto à incorporação do laminado.…”
