Fabrication and characterization of gold nanoparticle-loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays for medical implants

Abstract: Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) are successfully assembled on TiO2 nanotube (TN) arrays through electrochemical deposition technology to improve the surface characteristics of TN arrays as an implant material. The loading amount of AuNPs can be controlled by adjusting the deposition time of electrochemical deposition. The effect of the amount of the loaded AuNPs on surface roughness and surface energy is systematically investigated on the basis of various characterizations. Results show that the increase in the loadi… Show more

“…The CV in the 5 th cycle exhibited two peaks: a reduction peak of Au 3+ and an oxidation peak of Au. The reduction peak potential of Au 3+ occurred at -0.48 V and the oxidation peak potential of Au at -0.09 V. The reduction peak current increased with an increase in the number of cycles due to the growth of the GNPs [44,45]. We deposited NiO onto the GNP-modified ITO electrode by performing a cathodic potential scan (-1.2 to 0.0 V) at an initial concentration of 10 mM Ni(NO 3 ) 2 .…”

“…Therefore, Au 3+ ions move towards the polarized TNTs surface. As a consequence, more reduced Au crystals are formed on the surface of TNT arrays [19]. The AuNPs are homogeneously distributed on the surface of the TNT arrays.…”
