Fabricating an Accurate Implant Master Cast: A Technique Report

Abstract: The technique for fabricating an accurate implant master cast following the 12-week healing period after Teeth in a Day® dental implant surgery is detailed. The clinical, functional, and esthetic details captured during the final master impression are vital to creating an accurate master cast. This technique uses the properties of the all-acrylic resin interim prosthesis to capture these details. This impression captures the relationship between the remodeled soft tissue and the interim prosthesis. This provid… Show more

“…An open tray impression of the mandibular prosthesis using long guide pins was made to obtain a working cast of the mandibular arch (Fig ), with the full realization that this would replicate the misfit condition currently experienced with the existing prosthesis. Maxillary and mandibular stone casts of the existing prostheses were obtained and cross‐mounted with the working cast on which the mandibular prosthesis was secured, to maintain the existing occlusal vertical dimension (Fig ).…”

“…Passivity of the monolithic PMMA interim prosthesis was rechecked using tactile method, the one‐screw test, and radiographs . A new open tray impression of the bio‐functional try‐in was made using long guide pins, and a new master cast was obtained . It was cross‐mounted as described previously and sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the definitive mandibular prosthesis.…”

“…[4][5][6][7] Different techniques and methods have been developed to improve precision. [8][9][10][11] Additional progress will be found in improving workflow and reducing complexity, time, and cost. Intraoral scanning has been reported to be insufficiently precise because of the small scan areas that need to be stitched together to generate a 3D cast.…”

“…A verified cast allows for the metal substructure to be passive and tightly adapted toward the desired prosthetic outcome. [25][26][27][28] A nonverified cast can be used to assemble the bar, with intraoral luting of the cylinders for a passive fit.…”
