“…(1). The computed possible wave periods, shown in Table 1, are in exact agreement with wave periods of the acoustic-gravity waves observed by Doppler sounder arrays (BAKER and DAVIES, 1969;DAVIES and JONES, 1972;SMITH and HUNG, 1975;GEORGES and GREENE, 1975;JONES and GEORGES, 1976).…”

“…Ionosphere observations made by BAKER and DAvIEs (1969), DAVIES and JONES (1972), SMITH and HUNG (1975), GEORGES and GREENE (1975), GEORGES (1976), GEORGES (1976), andSMITH (1977a, b) shows that quasi-sinusoidal oscillations, with two harmonics of wave periods, 3 to 5 min and 6 to 9 min, are observed during time periods with thunderstorm activity.…”

“…The HF Doppler fluctuations associated with the thunderstorms has already been interpreted in terms of infrasonic waves originating in the turbulent air mass and traveling upward by BAKER and DAVIES (1969), DAVIES and JONES (1972) and GEORGES (1973). They reported that the quasi sinusoidal fluctuations were observed when severe thunderstorms with cloud tops in excess of 12km or so occur within a radius of 300km or more from the radio reflection points or only when intense updrafts penetrated the tropopause.…”

“…Exception are the HF Doppler soundings of the F-layer reported by GEORGES (1967GEORGES ( , 1968GEORGES ( , 1973. BAKER and DAVIES (1969), DAVIES and JONES (1971a, 1973, PRASAD et al (1975), SMITH and HUNG (1975) and RAJU et al (1981). They have shown that infrasonic waves with the periods of the order of one minute originated from thunderstorms and tornadoes, and contributed significantly to ionospheric perturbations.…”
