Abstract:Endospores of thermophilic bacteria are widespread in cold seabed environments where they remain dormant during initial burial in accumulating sediments. The temperature increase during sedimentation can be simulated in experimental heating of sediments, resulting in the temperature-dependent activation of different endospore populations from the microbial seed bank. Here we investigated the response of endospore populations to heating at extreme high temperature (80-99°C). Metabolites for germination and orga… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
