Extreme Light Infrastructure Nuclear Physics (ELI–NP): Present status and perspectives

Abstract: Extreme Light Infrastructure -Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), a new Research Center under construction, will use extreme electromagnetic fields for nuclear physics research and will be operational in 2018. The status of the Project implementation will be presented. At ELI-NP, a high power laser system together with a very brilliant gamma beam are the two main research tools. Their targeted operational parameters will be described. The related experimental set-ups will be presented, together with the main directions … Show more

“…5(c)]. In contrast, Traveling-Wave Electron Acceleration, combined with upcoming 10-PW-scale laser systems currently under construction [63], has the potential of accelerating at 10 19 cm −3 density electron bunches with tens of pC charge to the energy frontier at TeV energies.…”

“…Some other experiments, like Astra-Gemini laser facility [5,6] also studied this region. There are few more experiments, European Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) [7] and LUXE [8][9][10] that are planned to study SFQED. The parameter space where these experiments reached or are expected to reach is summarized in fig.…”
