Extractive Spectrophotometric Determination of Quetiapine Fumarate in Pharmaceuticals and Spiked Human Urine

Abstract: A simple, sensitive and selective extractive spectrophotometric method for the determination of quetiapine fumarate (QTF) in bulk drug, tablets and spiked human urine sample is described. The method is based on the formation of a chloroform extractable yellow ion-pair complex between basic nitrogen of the drug (QTF) and the dye quinoline yellow (QY) in acetate-hydrochloride buffer (pH 2.56) medium. The formed ion-pair complex exhibited an absorption maximum at 420 nm. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentratio… Show more

“…The oxidation reactions of some compounds are very rapid when perchloric acid (HClO 4 ) medium is maintained. [5][6][7][8] This is attributed to the highest oxidation potential of cerium(IV) in HClO 4 (E o D 1.75V) as compared to that of cerium(IV) in H 2 SO 4 (E o D 1.44), HNO 3 (E o D 1.61V) or HCl (E o D1.28V). [9] In sulfuric acid and sulfate media, cerium(IV) forms several sulfato complexes.…”

“…A variety of analytical techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography [4][5][6][7][8], gas chromatography [9], thin layer chromatography [10], micellar liquid chromatography [11], capillary zone electrophoresis [3], voltammetry [12], LC-MS [13], potentiometry [14,15], gravimetry [16] and titrimetry [17][18][19][20][21][22] have been reported for the determination of HDH in biological fluids and pharmaceuticals. The official USP method available for the assay of the drug in tablets employs a chromatographic system equipped with a UV-detector, where HDH can be detected at 232 nm [23].…”
