Extraction of the CKM phase γ using charmless three-body decays of B mesons

Abstract: The weak phase γ is extracted from three-body charmless decays of B mesons following a method proposed by Bhattacharya, Imbeault & London. The result is obtained by combining the BaBar amplitude analyses for the processesunder the assumption of SU(3) flavour symmetry. Six possible solutions are found: γ1 = [ 12.9 +8.4 −4.3 (stat) ± 1.3 (syst)] • , γ2 = [ 36.6 +6.6 −6.1 (stat) ± 2.6 (syst)] • , γ3 = [ 68.9 +8.6 −8.6 (stat) ± 2.4 (syst)] • , γ4 = [223.2 +10.9 −7.5 (stat) ± 1.0 (syst)] • , γ5 = [266.4 +9.2 −10.8 … Show more

“…Some of them can only provide a bound on , and serve as a complementary and indirect constraint on the unitarity triangle. Recently, three-body charmless B decays, whose amplitudes are related by the flavor SU(3) symmetry [15][16][17] or U spin flavor symmetry [18], were used to extract the CKM angle . The uncertainty of this fit was of the order of with six possible solutions found in the latest paper [17].…”

“…This analysis was redone in Ref. [42], taking into account all systematic errors, particularly those from correlations between the results from different DP points. It was found that (i) when averaged over the full DP, SU(3) breaking is only at the percent level, and (ii) the loop-level γ can be extracted with a 6-fold ambiguity:…”
