As explained in our previous articles, [1,2] primary amines have a much higher capability of forming H-bonds with both lipophilic acid and extracted acid, compared with tertiary amines, due to smaller steric hindrance and larger number of protons available for interaction. These parameters also enhance interactions between the amine-lipophilic acid ion-pairs, which compete with acid extraction through H-bonding to the ion-pairs.…”
