“…Other non-conventional methods are also studied for the extraction of chlorophylls in order to obtain better extraction results. Molina et al (2022) extracted chlorophylls from the aerial parts of tomato and carrot, using maceration as well as ultrasound-assisted extractions and evaluating different parameters in each of them [ 119 ]. The ultrasound technique was more effective than maceration, where tomato aerial parts revealed a higher concentration of chlorophylls (211.6 ± 0.3 μg/g) than carrot aerial parts (110.4 ± 0.4 μg/g) did.…”

“…Regarding the extraction of chlorophyll from by-products with UAE, there are very few studies carried out, in the last 5 years only 4 works were found, of which one is a conference abstract ( 99 ) and other used UAE as part of the analytical method ( 100 ). All studies evaluated chlorophyll extraction from leaves (agricultural waste produced during harvest).…”

“…All studies evaluated chlorophyll extraction from leaves (agricultural waste produced during harvest). Chlorophyll was extracted by UAE from the powder of the dry leaves of carrot ( 99 ), papaya ( 101 ), cassava ( 100 ), and olive ( 102 ). Among the processing conditions performed in the mentioned studies, ultrasound probe and bath were used, a maximum temperature of 50°C, extraction times from 5 min to 90 min, S/L ratio from 0.033 to 0.05 g/mL using as solvents water, hexane, acetone, or a mixture of water with ethanol.…”

“…The extracts obtained were analyzed to quantify the contents of lutein and β-carotene. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC; Dionex Ultimate 3000 UPLC and Linear Ion Trap LTQ XL, Thermo Scientific, San José, CA, USA), coupled to a diode array detector (DAD), and an electrospray ionization source (ESI), coupled to a mass spectrometer (MS), were used as previously described by Molina et al (2022). The chromatographic separation was achieved in a Synergy 4u Hydro-RP column (4.6 Â 250 mm, 4 μm, Phenomenex, Canada) thermostatized at 30 C. Double online detection was carried out in the DAD at 430 and 470 nm, used as preferred wavelengths (maximum intensities for carotenoids).…”
