“…It is said that the cyclic tetramer calix [4]arene carboxyl derivative preferentially extracts sodium ions at rst and then the sodium-loaded ligand extracts Ln(III) as a "pre-organized" extractant. 79 Kuznetsova et al 80,81 have studied the extraction of some fions (La, Pr, Yb, Lu, Ho, Eu, Am) with calix [4]resorcinarene or its alkylaminomethylated derivatives (dimethylamino-, piperidyl-and trimethylammonium moieties), (4 Â 10 À4 M, Fig. 11) in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline (8 Â 10 À4 M) in n-heptanol.…”

“…84 1-Heptanol appears to be a better diluent than dichloroethane on the extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) nitrates from neutral or weakly acidic aqueous solutions (pH 4-6) with dimethylaminomethylated calix [4]resorcinolarene in combination with 1,10- phenantroline. 81 Additions of 1,10-phen to the organic phase decrease by 2-3 orders of magnitude the concentration of resorcinolarene required for efficient f-ion extraction showing synergism. The D Am value grows from 0.01 to 0.1 and the Am content in the third phase appreciably decreases going from dichloroethane to 1heptanol.…”

“…In recent decades, the development of macrocyclic chemistry has contributed widely to the separation science. Many calixarene derivatives with different functional groups such as ketono, ester, and amide have been prepared and studied as cyclic extractants. The solvent extraction of trivalent lanthanoid and actinoid ions with various calixarenes has been investigated by Arnaud-Neu et al, Kuznetsova et al, Bünzli et al, , Ludwig et al, , etc. It was noted that the cavity size, the position and kind of donor groups, and the ligand’s hydrophobicity have a pronounced impact on the extraction power and selectivity.…”

“…For instance, it seems more practical to be used in the separation of rare earths [25] and recovery of radioactive elements in the nuclear industry. [27][28][29] In our previous work, we studied the extraction and separation of lanthanides and actinide by some calixarene derivatives and found that they exhibit good selectivity towards thorium over lanthanides under proper conditions.
