Extraction/export of nutrients in Opuntia ficus-indica under different spacings and chemical fertilizers

Abstract: This work aimed to evaluate extraction/ export of nutrients and dry matter production in the 'Gigante' cactus pear, grown in different spacings and fertilizations 620 days after planting. Twelve combination of treatments were used consisting of: three spacings - 1.00 x 0.50; 2.00 x 0.25; and 3.00 x 1.00 x 0.25 m, and four fertilizations - 000-000-000; 000-150-000; 200-150-000; and 200-150-100, kg ha-1, of N, P2O5 and K2O, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme in a randomized block design, with three replicates. “…These data agree with those of Teles et al (2004), who worked with cactus pear in greenhouse, but differ from the results of Silva et al (2016), who reported the following sequence: Ca, K, N, Mg, S and P. There was a deficit of K, Ca and Mg in relation to the cattle manure doses applied to the soil. Thus, it is necessary to add these nutrients to maintain a high and sustainable production.…”

“…The mean amount of P extracted/exported (PEE) by the cactus pear was 35.3 kg ha -1 , which is higher than 18.81 kg ha -1 , obtained by Silva et al (2016). Differences for PEE were observed only between the spacings of 1.0 x 0.5 and 3.0 x 1.0 x 0.25 m, with highest and lowest value, respectively.…”

“…Similar plans are underway in Mexico, where nopal covers about 3 million hectares, mostly in the form of wild cactus (mainly in Zacatecas, State of M exico, and Hidalgo) [33], and in Brazil, which has the largest planted area of cactus pear in the world with the cultivation of approximately 600 000 hectares, mostly Opuntia and Nopalea cultivars [34].…”
