Extracting the quark mixing phaseγfromB±K±π+π,

Abstract: We discuss some aspects of the search for CP asymmetry in the three body B decays, revealed through the interference among neighbor resonances in the Dalitz plot. We propose a competitive method to extract the CKM γ angle combining Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of B ± → K ± π + π − and untagged B 0 ,B 0 → K s π + π − . The method also obtains the ratio and phase difference between the tree and penguin contributions from B 0 andB 0 → K * ± π ∓ decays and the CP asymmetry between B 0 andB 0 . From Monte Carlo s… Show more

“…These three sources of strong phases are known to give clear signatures in the Dalitz plane [13,14]. The shortdistance direct CP violation is proportional to the difference of the magnitude between the positive and negative amplitudes of the resonance, and is therefore proportional to the square of the Breit-Wigner propagator associated with the resonance.…”

“…The remaining two sources are related to longdistance effects involving hadron-hadron interactions in the final state. Interference between intermediate states of the decay can introduce large strong-phase differences, and therefore induce local asymmetries in the phase space [9,[13][14][15][16]. Another mechanism is final-state KK ↔ ππ rescattering, which can occur between decay channels having the same flavor quantum numbers [7][8][9][10].…”

“…The cleanest method requires measurements from the B 0 → K + π − π 0 and B 0 → K 0 S π + π − Dalitz plots [1146][1147][1148]. Other methods also use B + → K 0 S π + π 0 [1146], 1149], and B s → K + π − π 0 and B s → K 0 S π + π − [1150].…”
