Extract of Yi Zhi Fang improves learning and memory behaviours of mice and its possible mechanisms

Abstract: The effects of Yi Zhi Fang extract (YZF) on learning and memory performances were investigated in mice using passive avoidance tasks. Oral administration of YZF improved learning and memory disorders induced by chemicals in both normal and senile mice. The acetylcholine (Ach) concentration, the muscarinic Ach receptors (M-R) and the monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activities were analysed by a radioimmunoassay, a radioligand receptor binding assay and UV spectrophotometry, respectively, using senile decapitated mi… Show more

“…Sci. 2024, 14, 2582 2 of 10 peroxidation yields malondialdehyde (MDA) and antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) are thought to be crucial in combating oxidative stress [8][9][10][11][12]. Although many enzymes related to oxidative stress in NDs have been studied, Paraoxonase (PON), Carbonic Anhydrase (CA), and β-glucosidase enzymes are within the scope of our study.…”

“…Since ACh is neither UV-active, fluorescent, nor electroactive, many assays including bioassays [5], radiochemical methods [6,7], or derivatization methods [8,9] have often been employed. For these methods with inherently complicated procedures and difficulties in quantitation, nowadays, high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ECD) [10][11][12] or electrospray-mass spectrometric detection (ESI-MS) [13][14][15] was frequently used to analyze of ACh in biological specimens.…”
