Extracellular Vesicle Derived From Mesenchymal Stem Cells Have Bidirectional Effects on the Development of Lung Cancer

Abstract: Mesenchymal stem cell is a kind of pluripotent cells with the ability of self-renewal and multi-directional differentiation, which exist in bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, umbilical cord tissue, placenta tissue, adipose tissue and so on. Extracellular vesicles are membranous lipid vesicles secreted by a variety of cells and widely present in body fluids, which contain proteins, mRNA, microRNA and other substances, and are an important medium of intercellular communication. At present, more and more evidence… Show more

“…Compared with their parental stem cells, EVs have several advantages including high safety, absence of immune reactions, fewer ethical issues, and decreased potential for embolism formation and carcinogenicity. Recent reported the pivotal role of stem cell-derived EVs (SC-EVs) in a wide spectrum of diseases such as cancer, myocardial infarction, and skin wounds (5)(6)(7). But the study on the role of SC-EVs in inflammatory diseases is still in the infancy.…”

“…MSCs are fibroblast-like progenitor cells recovered from the bone marrow, adipose tissue, and umbilical cord. They have adipogenic, chondrogenic, and osteogenic differentiation potential [ 321 , 322 , 323 , 324 , 325 , 326 , 327 , 328 ]. MSCs do not express human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II antigens; therefore, they are not only less immunogenic in allogeneic transplantation but are also capable of suppressing the function of various immune cells.…”

“…Cancer stem cell populations are the main cause of metastasis and recurrence 5,6 . They are characterized by a high self‐renewal, maintenance of an undifferentiated state, tumorigenesis, and chemo‐/radioresistance and are thus considered a promising therapeutic target 7–10 …”
