Extra Virgin Olive Oil Protects the Testis and Blood from the Toxicity of Paracetamol (Overdose) in Adult Male Rats

Abstract: Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is important in people’s daily diets. Paracetamol is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic drug. The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effect of EVOO against hematotoxicity and testicular toxicity induced by paracetamol overdose in rats. Forty rats were divided into four groups. Group 1 rats were given water (control), Group 2 rats were given oral EVOO daily (2 mL/kg b.wt.), Group 3 rats were given oral paracetamol daily (650 mg/kg b.wt.), and Group 4 rats were … Show more

“…Compared with the MAL-intoxicated group, the testicular tissues and cells had returned to normal under the assumption of the protective effects of coffee and olive oils. The outcomes of this investigation were consistent with those of Al-Megrin et al [ 27 ], Bhardwaj et al [ 39 ], and Khayyat, [ 40 ].…”

“…The toxic effects of acetaminophen has been well documented in other reports (Boyer & Rouff, 1971;Mazer & Perrone, 2008;Olaleye & Rocha João, 2008;Lancaster et al, 2015;Rahimi et al, 2022;Chilvery et al, 2023). Nevertheless the damaging impacts of acetaminophen have been alleviated by various treatment (Aksu et al, 2016;Khayyat, 2021;Rahimi et al, 2022;Chilvery et al, 2023).…”

“…It is safe at therapeutic doses for analgesic and antipyretic therapy ( Jóźwiak-Bebenista & Nowak, 2014). But overdoses or the long-term use of acetaminophen resulted in toxicity effects in the organs of liver, kidney, and testis and affected the blood chemistry and reproductive parameters (Olaleye & Rocha João, 2008;Luangpirom et al, 2012;Oyedeji et al, 2013;Khayyat, 2021). High doses of acetaminophen affected the male reproductive system, changing the semen quality, particularly the sperm morphology and fertilizing ability (Ratnasooriya & Jayakody, 2000;Luangpirom et al, 2012;Oyedeji et al, 2013;Banihani, 2018;Boizet-Bonhoure et al, 2022).…”

“…Several researches have demonstrated the adverse effects of certain substances on the structure and function of male reproductive system and fertility 32 . Consistent use of high doses of paracetamol has been shown to induce testicular toxicity 33 . In this study, the effects of paracetamol on hormonal milieu, oxidative stress levels, seminal analysis and histology of the testis were observed while assessing the ameliorative effects of moringa on these features.…”
