“…The maximum peak wavelength of the Au-NPs is red-shifted from 521 to 538 nm with increasing CTAB concentration (figure S1(b)), indicating the formation of Au-NP of larger sizes with increasing CTAB concentration. Based on the reported value of the extinction coefficient of gold nanoparticles (Dolinnyi 2017), the concentrations of the Au-NPs in the dispersions were estimated to be 10 and 0.16 nM, respectively, for the smallest (10 nm) and largest (50 nm) particle sizes used in this study. Dispersions of AuNPs of different concentrations were prepared by diluting and concentrating the AuNP stock solution as required.…”

“…UV-vis spectroscopy was used to determine the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties of the MNPs and to quantify the yield of the reduction of gold using the extinction coefficient of AuNPs. 43,44 The spectra were recorded using a PerkinElmer Lambda 19 UV-vis spectrophotometer. The AuNPs/CNF suspension was placed in a quartz cuvette of 1 cm path length and the spectra were recorded against a blank of CNF suspension.…”

“…TEM images confirm the presence of AgNPs (dark spheres) and size analysis (N=76) results in an average diameter 17±10 nm, in agreement with the extinction spectra. Dispersion can be also quantified by counting the cases where the nearest neighbor spacing between particles exceeds two times their radius, the minimum distance below which undesirable particle-particle interactions significantly impact efficiency [60,61]. 88% of 144 measured nearest neighbor distances exceeded this measure.…”
