Externally-Pressurized Gas-Lubricated Floating-Ring Porous Journal Bearings Part 2: Dynamical State Analysis

Abstract: Theoretical stability characteristics of a new type of floating-ring bearing, proposed in an earlier paper, are presented. The results bring out the essential features of dynamical behaviour of the proposed bearing against the externally-pressurized plain porous journal bearing. The numerical scheme for the computation of the stability margin adopted in this work is different, yet simple and very efficient.

“…Author has compared the steady-state performance of gas-lubricated FRB with externally pressurized plain porous journal bearing. Malik and Hori 17 presented the dynamic characteristics of the externally pressurized gas-lubricated floating ring porous bearing in which both the fixed bearing shell and a floating ring, of porous materials. Authors have described the stability margin and whirl frequency ratio of the porous type of floating ring journal bearing.…”
