Violent discipline in schools infringes on children’s rights and is associated with harmful developmental consequences for students. This calls for effective intervention programs, particularly in countries with high prevalence of violent discipline in schools. This study tested the effectiveness of the preventative intervention Interaction Competencies with Children—for Teachers (ICC-T) in reducing violent discipline by teachers in a two-arm matched cluster-randomized controlled trial. The sample comprised teachers (n = 173, 53.7% female) and students (n = 914, 50.5% girls) from 12 public primary schools from six regions in Tanzania. Teacher physical and emotional violent discipline reported by teachers and students was assessed before and six to eight and a half months after the intervention. The schools were randomly allocated to either intervention (6; ICC-T) or control condition (6; no intervention). Teachers were not blinded. Students and research assistants conducting the follow-up assessment were blinded. A series of multivariate multilevel models revealed significant time*intervention effects on physical violent discipline reported by teachers and students and teachers’ favorable attitudes towards physical violent discipline, FDRs < .05. In addition, we found a spill-over effect on peer-to-peer violence and students’ externalizing, ps < .05. There were no significant time*intervention effects either on emotional violent discipline, FDRs > .05, teachers’ favorable attitudes towards emotional violent discipline or on student’s internalizing problems and academic performance, ps > .05. Our results provide further evidence that ICC-T may positively change teachers’ violent disciplining behavior and their attitudes towards violent discipline. ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03893851.

This research aims to make a synthesis of legal protection and efforts to fight violence against teachers that currently occurs, through the presence of the state and professional organizations in it. This research method is literature, which is conducted by carefully examining the relevant literature to determine its usefulness, reliability, and authority with respect to legal protection and violence against teachers. To conclude the results of data analysis, it is carried out by summarizing important aspects of the literature that are the focus and objectives of the study. Conduct an evaluation of the current state of the reviewed literature. Identify significant deficiencies or gaps in existing knowledge. Then proceed to outline areas for future study. Finally, linking the research results with other relevant sources. The results of this study show that the state needs to be present in the prevention and improvement of various bureaupathologies (bureaucratic diseases) to improve the handling of potential violence against teachers. Bureaucratic reform is needed to the extent that it touches on preventing violence against teachers. Teacher professional organizations should be able to reach all teachers. That reported and unreported incidents can be traced to anticipate various damages. Ultimately action can be taken generated by teachers and schools, and stress faced by teachers and students.Keywords: Legal protection, violence against teachers, the state, professional organizations.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan membuat sintesis mengenai perlindungan hukum dan upaya melawan kekerasan terhadap guru yang saat ini terjadi, melalui kehadiran negara dan organisasi profesi didalamnya. Metode penelitian ini ialah literatur, yang dilakukan secara hati-hati memeriksa literatur yang relevan untuk menentukan kegunaan, keandalan, dan otoritasnya sehubungan dengan perlindungan hukum dan kekerasan terhadap guru. Untuk membuat kesimpulan hasil analisis data, dilakukan dengan meringkas aspek-aspek penting dari literatur yang menjadi fokus dan tujuan penelitian. Melakukan evaluasi keadaan literatur yang ditinjau saat ini. Mengidentifikasi kekurangan atau kesenjangan yang signifikan dalam pengetahuan yang ada. Kemudian dilanjutkan membuat garis besar area untuk studi masa depan. Terakhir, menghubungkan hasil penelitian dengan sumber lain yang relevan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan negara perlu hadir dalam pencegahan dan perbaikan berbagai bureaupathologies (penyakit birokrasi) untuk memperbaiki penanganan potensi kekerasan kepada guru. Reformasi birokrasi diperlukan sampai menyentuh pencegahan kekerasan terhadap guru. Organisasi profesi guru mestinya dapat menjangkau semua guru. Bahwa insiden yang dilaporkan maupun yang tidak dilaporkan, dapat ditelusur untuk dilakukan upaya-upaya antisipasi dari berbagai kerusakan. Violência contra a criança representa grave problema social e de saúde global. A legislação nacional prevê como dever da escola e de outros setores que integram a rede de proteção infantil, a adoção de ações articuladas e efetivas direcionadas a identificação e denúncia, bem como ao acolhimento e acompanhamento de casos suspeitos e confirmados de maus-tratos a esse grupo. Considerando esses aspectos, objetivou-se identificar se as temáticas “violência” e “violência contra a criança” são abordadas nos currículos dos cursos de graduação em Educação Física no Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se pesquisa documental, de corte transversal e descritivo, em que foram analisadas matrizes curriculares e ementários de cursos de graduação em Educação Física, de Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) públicas, localizadas nos Estados brasileiros e Distrito Federal. Identificou-se, na plataforma e-MEC, 2363 (100%) cursos de Educação Física, em que 182 (7,7%) foram incluídos como amostra para essa pesquisa, sendo aqueles de grau licenciatura, gratuitos e com turmas em andamento. Desses, a maioria (169;92,9%) é ofertada na modalidade presencial e, ao total, estão autorizadas 14.172 vagas anuais. Ainda, a temática violência não está presente na maioria dos ementários das disciplinas. Conclui-se que há fragilidades na abordagem de conteúdos relacionados ao enfrentamento da violência infantil na formação dos professores de Educação Física. Os maus-tratos infantis configuram-se em problema de saúde pública real, presente em todas as classes e altamente influenciado por vulnerabilidades sociais. Nesse sentido, destaca-se a necessidade de inclusão dessa temática na formação dos professores, de modo a instrumentalizá-los para a implementação de ações efetivamente capazes de prevenir e interromper o ciclo da violência contra a criança.
