Exterior and Body Types of Cows with Different Levels of Dairy Productivity

Abstract: The research aimed to study the dynamics of changes in the selection and genetic parameters of the body, to determine the relationship between the productive qualities and the exterior of cows in the population of Holsteinized black-and-white and Kholmogory cattle of the Udmurt Republic. Cows with a productivity level of more than 8000 kg of milk for 305 days of lactation had a relatively high indicator of the length of the coxal area (by 2.0 and 2.3%, P<0.05) and the depth of the loin (by 1.3 and 1.5%) with a… Show more

“…The BDD score increased symphonically with the dairy-oriented breed (KOENEN & GROEN 1998). Moreover, the body depth affects the dry matter intake (DMI), and henceforward it will influence the milk yield and fat milk yield (VEERKAMP 1998, BAIMUKANOV et al 2022). Due to this, the body depth correlates with the milk production characteristics as much as 0.138-0.228 (SCHMIDTMANN et al 2023).…”

“…The size of circumference of the shin characterizes the development of the skeleton and the type of constitution of the animal [21]. The average circumference of the shin of cows during the studied period within the range of 17,9...19,5 cm indicates the dairy type of animals and meets the requirements of the desired type.…”

“…Quantitative evaluation of the exterior by the method of linear classification according to the type of body structure is a necessary element of the comprehensive analysis of dairy cattle [7; 8; 19]. With the intensive use of dairy cows, the introduction of modern technological solutions dependent on the biological characteristics of animals, the highest quality products can be obtained only under the conditions of successful selection of cows for suitability for breeding in the conditions of industrial technology [21]. At the same time, the integral characteristic of a complete organism, reflected through a complex of exterior indicators, is presented in a modern linear assessment of the type of body structure of animals, which combines the analysis of cows by productivity and external appearance (exterior) [19; 22].…”

“…The efficiency of the accelerated herd turnover is ensured if each generation of the servicing bulls is better in terms of breeding value than the previous one. Wellknown problems with herd reproduction should be solved by timely treatment of animals after calving, organization of active exercise, timely identification of cows and heifers in heat, and improvement of artificial insemination techniques (Fleming et al, 2018;Baimukanov et al, 2022).…”
