Shape grammars allow a designer to explore a diverse and broad design space. Especially among architects and engineers, the opportunity to evaluate numerous alternatives in the conceptual phase facilitates creativity. Since the introduction of shape grammars 50 years ago, significant research and development have been performed: new applications, combinations with optimisation and integration in digital environments, among others. Consequently, there is a need to map the existing literature to encourage further progress in the field and a lower threshold for those interested in learning more about shape grammars. This study, therefore, presents a systematic mapping of shape grammars in architecture and engineering. Mapping is performed by identifying a query of relevant keywords used in five databases, with the results forming the basis of the mapping. Each of the included articles is then screened to filter out those that do not fit the content criteria. The remaining publications are then evaluated and organised based on the attributes’ application, research type, implementation, engineering and optimisation. The outcome is organised in explanatory illustrations and tables. The final discussion highlights the extensive work performed with shape grammars in the generation of two-dimensional floor plans, an increase in digital development in recent years and the need for further research. The findings indicate a gap between the state of the art and the necessary level of applicability for shape grammars to be an attractive design tool, especially for non-experts.

The widespread use of computer technologies in engineering and architecture provides essential contributions to engineers and architects in solving design problems. The computational design approach, which emerged depending on computer science and design theories and software and hardware technologies, is reflected in today's engineering and architectural works. In this study, store plan alternatives were prioritized by the Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Analytic Network (IT2 FANP) methodology, and the best alternative of store plans was selected. In addition, the results obtained for the four methods were compared. Type-2 Fuzzy Set can reduce the effects of vagueness and uncertainties. These sets make it probable to model uncertainties directly. There are very few studies on the IT2 FANP method for architectural design area in the literature. Our aim is to contribute to the literature by increasing the studies in this field.

Using energy effectively is one of the most important issues and problems that countries should take up. As a parallel of increasing energy demands worldwide and still mostly using fossil fuels, energy saving issues have gained much importance in recent years for all areas of life. It is a fact that construction also plays an important role in the emergence of the energy and environmental problem that we see as the problem of our centenary. As buildings consume about 40% of the world's annual energy consumption globally, this study will focus on the evaluation of residential heating system alternatives using the generalized Choquet integral method with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The main contribution of this paper is to determine the interdependency among main criteria and subcriteria, the nonlinear relationship among them and the environmental uncertainties while prioritizing residential heating system alternatives using the generalized Choquet integral method with the experts' view. To the authors' knowledge, this will be the first interdisciplinary study that uses the generalized Choquet integral method for residential heating systems.
