We show that the Einstein-Laub formulation of electrodynamics is invalid since it yields a stressenergy-momentum (SEM) tensor that is not frame invariant. Two leading hypotheses for the kinetic formulation of electrodynamics (Chu and Einstein-Laub) are studied by use of the relativistic principle of virtual power, mathematical modeling, Lagrangian methods, and SEM transformations. The relativistic principle of virtual power is used to demonstrate the field dynamics associated with energy relations within a relativistic framework. Lorentz transformations of the respective SEM tensors demonstrate the relativistic frameworks for each studied formulation. Mathematical modeling of stationary and moving media is used to illustrate the differences and discrepancies of specific proposed kinetic formulations, where energy relations and conservation theorems are employed. Lagrangian methods are utilized to derive the field kinetic Maxwell's equations, which are studied with respect to SEM tensor transforms. Within each analysis, the Einstein-Laub formulation violates special relativity, which invalidates the Einstein-Laub SEM tensor.

Recently there had been a great deal of activity associated with various schemes of designing both analytical and experimental methods describing knotted structures in electrodynamics and in hydrodynamics. The majority of works in electrodynamics were inspired by the influential paper by Ranada (1989) and its subsequent refinements. In this work and in its companion we reanalyze Ranada's results using methods of contact geometry and topology. Not only our analysis allows us to reproduce his major results but, in addition, it provides opportunities for considerably extending the catalog of known knot types. Furthermore, it allows to reinterpret both the electric and magnetic charges purely topologically thus opening the possibility of treatment of masses and charges in Yang-Mills and gravity theories also topologically. According to (now proven) Thurston's geometrization conjecture complements of all knots/links in S 3 are spaces of positive, zero or negative curvature. This means that spaces around our topological masses/charges are curved. This fact is essential for design of purely topological theories of gravity, electromagnetism and strong/weak interactions.

Analysis of electromagnetic propagation in the magnetic plasma state in spin-ice systems

Low energy excitation states in magnetic structures of the so-called spin-ices are produced via spin flips among contiguous tetrahedrons of their crystal structure. When there are sufficient free positive and negative charges, the system behaves as a magnetic plasma, which could correspond to the highest temperature peak of the specific heat. The electromagnetic waves in both unconfined and confined systems (waveguides) filled with materials of magnetic charges can be able to transmit information and energy. The only problem is the low temperature for which these magnetic entities appear in the spin-ice materials. However, similar behaviour may be present in other compounds at higher temperatures. This analysis is addressed to study physical properties which should be present in those new materials. Therefore, in this paper, we obtain some magnetic linear responses, the effective masses of the magnetic charges from the precession movement of the monopoles which coincides with a strong electromagnetic absorption frequency, the plasmonic physical magnitude which is identified with the cut propagation frequency in a wave guide, and other properties of the electromagnetic propagation in these compounds with effective magnetic monopoles such as the modification of the electromagnetic fields of the wave in the presence of magnetic charges and currents. All these electromagnetic properties can serve as tests for detecting magnetic entities which mimic the behaviour of magnetic monopoles in other different new materials. Besides, these analyses can be illuminating for obtaining possible circuital applications of these materials that lead to “Magnetronic” devices.
