Expression patterns of seven key genes, including β-catenin, Notch1, GATA6, CDX2, miR-34a, miR-181a and miR-93 in gastric cancer

Abstract: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most prevalent cancers and a major cause of cancer related mortality worldwide. Incidence of GC is affected by various factors, including genetic and environmental factors. Despite extensive research has been done for molecular characterization of GC, it remains largely unknown. Therefore, further studies specially conducted among various ethnicities in different geographic locations, are required to know the precise molecular mechanisms leading to tumorigenesis and progressio… Show more

“…In accord with other finding (162,163), the study by Liang et al (155) found that miRNA-93 was also a possible oncomir in gastric cancer cells. The investigators used a miRNA array to examine two gastric cancer tissues and found that miRNA-23b-3p, miRNA-17-5p and miRNA-93 inversely correlated with PDCD4 expression and were therefore candidate regulators of the tumour suppressor.…”

“…microRNAs (miRNAs, miRs) are small non-coding regulatory RNA molecules that play important roles in various biological processes. One miRNA could target many mRNAs, and most mammalian mRNAs are conserved targets of miRNAs [ 5 7 ]. At least three RNA species, primary miRNA (pri-miRNA), precursor miRNA (pre-miRNA), and mature miRNA, are generated from miRNA genes during transcription and sequential processing steps by Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases.…”

“…Gastric cancer (GC) is considered as third invasive malignant growth across the globe [1]. Incidence of GC may occure by genetic and environmental effects in developing countries [2]. Although the morbidity and mortality of GC have reduced over the past few decades in some nations, the malignancy has remained the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths over the world [3].…”
