Expression of the platelet‐derived growth factor β receptor during organogenesis and tissue differentiation in the mouse embryo

Abstract: In this study we used in situ hybridization to localize expression of the plateletderived growth factor p (PDGFP) receptor mRNA during organogenesis in the mouse embryo (E 9 . S 16.5). Expression was first seen in periaortic mesenchyme (E 9.5-10.5). Later (E 12.5-E 16.51, the receptor was expressed in the mesenchymal component of many developing tissues and organs, particularly derivatives of the primitive gut. The expression was exceptionally high in mesenchyme directly supporting an epithelium, typical of ma… Show more

“…Effects of Shh and VEGF on bone vascularisation smooth muscle cells (Zerwes and Risau, 1987;Shinbrot et al, 1994;Lindahl et al, 1997). Additionally, PDGF-BB also induces the differentiation of undifferentiated mesenchymal cells towards a mural cell fate (Hellstrom et al, 1999;Hirschi et al, 1999).…”

“…50 Like PDGFRα, PDGFRβ is expressed in many mesenchymal cells throughout the embryo including cardiac NCCs. 44,51 Once cardiac NCCs reach the outflow tract a segregation of PDGF receptor expression occurs, where PDGFRα is associated with the tunica adventitia and mesenchyme throughout the aortic arch and PDGFRβ is expressed predominantly in the neural crest and non-neural crest-derived vascular smooth muscle cell population.…”
