Expression of myogenes in longissimus dorsi muscle during prenatal development in commercial and local Piau pigs

Abstract: This study used qRT-PCR to examine variation in the expression of 13 myogenes during muscle development in four prenatal periods (21, 40, 70 and 90 days post-insemination) in commercial (the three-way Duroc, Landrace and Large-White cross) and local Piau pig breeds that differ in muscle mass. There was no variation in the expression of the CHD8, EID2B, HIF1AN, IKBKB, RSPO3, SOX7 and SUFU genes at the various prenatal ages or between breeds. The MAP2K1 and RBM24 genes showed similar expression between commercia… Show more

“…CSRP3 is a cofactor for myogenic bHLH transcription factors and promotes myoblast differentiation [ 72 , 73 ]. It is upregulated during porcine embryonic primary and secondary fiber formation and promotes more rapid body growth in Yorkshire pigs [ 11 , 74 ]. CSRP3 was predicted to be trans -targeted by XLOC_243473, XLOC_246104, XLOC_240533, XLOC_100917, XLOC_240947, XLOC_021126, and XLOC_127634.…”

“…EID2B, as an RA-associated gene, participates in MyoDdependent transcription, glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcription, and muscle differentiation as a functional repressor [77,78]. MyoD-associated biological functions induce muscle lesions by interacting with abnormal regulation on TNF-α pathways, targeted by IFX during the initiation and progression of RA [79].…”

“…The LEF1 gene, which is associated with the Wnt signaling pathway, plays an indispensable role in muscle fiber development by regulating the expression of MRFs such as MYF5 and MYOD . Reis et al [ 149 ] recognized LEF1 as a promising candidate gene whose differential expression affects muscle mass; they observed greater expression of this gene in 3-week-old and 40-day-old fetuses of Duroc × Landrace × Large White cross pigs than in Piau pigs, associated with somite construction and proliferation and myoblast fusion. Notch genes ( Notch1–4 ) have different expression patterns during prenatal and postnatal tissue development in mammals.…”
