Expression of inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chains in endometrium of cyclic and pregnant gilts

Abstract: Attachment of the placenta to the uterus in pigs involves extracellular interaction between the expanding trophoblastic membrane and the thick glycocalyx present on the uterine epithelial microvilli. Formation of complexes between members of inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor family may function in the maintenance of the extracellular matrix. This study investigated the change in the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chains (ITIH1, ITIH2, ITIH3 and ITIH4) during the oestrous cycle and early pregnancy in pigs. Gen… Show more

“…Extrahepatic production of ALB, APOA1, SAA, Hp, and PigMAP has previously been described in pigs [12, 32, 36, 40]. However, the current study provides to our knowledge the first example of extrahepatic expression of AGP, CRP, FIB, Hp, PigMAP, TF, and TTR in porcine peripheral lymphoid tissues.…”

“…There were no previous reports between above‐enumerated genes and traits of pigs except for ITIH2 , which is one of four members of inter‐α‐trypsin inhibitor heavy chains ( ITIH1 to 4 ). This gene family may play an important role in the maintenance of the uterine surface glycocalyx during placental attachment in pigs (Geisert et al . 2003).…”

“…2a-h and Additional file 3, respectively). Literature search showed that most of these genes have known functions: tk2 [36] is a deoxyribonucleoside kinase that is required for mitochondrial DNA synthesis; drd3 [37] is dopamine receptor which is associated with cognitive, emotional, and endocrine functions; cldn23 [38] is an integral membrane protein that maintains cell polarity and signal transductions; nudt13 [39] is hydrolase and its function is also largely unknown; itih2 [40] is a serine protease inhibitor that carries hyaluronan in plasma; flvcr1 [41] is a heme transporter that has a critical role in erythropoiesis by protecting developing erythroid cells from heme toxicity; pomt1 [42] is an O-mannosyltransferase that is a component of many polysaccharides and glycoproteins; prkcq [43] is a serine- and threonine-specific protein kinase that is important for T-cell activation; and otulina [44] is a predicted deubiquitinase also called fam105ba . qPCR confirmed the differential expression of these genes in bad quality eggs relative to good quality eggs (Fig.…”
