Expression of human DEC-205 (CD205) multilectin receptor on leukocytes

Abstract: DEC-205 (CD205) belongs to the macrophage mannose receptor family of C-type lectin endocytic receptors and behaves as an antigen uptake/processing receptor for dendritic cells (DC). To investigate DEC-205 tissue distribution in human leukocytes, we generated a series of anti-human DEC-205 monoclonal antibodies (MMRI-5, 6 and 7), which recognized epitopes within the C-type lectin-like domains 1 and 2, and the MMRI-7 immunoprecipitated a single approximately 200 kDa band, identified as DEC-205 by mass spectromet… Show more

“…CD205 is also expressed by CD8 + DCs that are believed to play a role in cross priming (Kato et al, 2006). We found CD205 positive cells mainly in perivascular cuffs of NLGM, NLWM and MS plaques (Fig.…”

“…Fewer perivascular DCs expressing CD205 and CD83 makers for the mature cells were found compared to the CD209 + DCs. Since CD205 is also expressed by CD8 + DCs it is possible that these perivascular CD205 + cells play a role in CD8 + T cells priming (Kato et al, 2006).…”

“…DEC-205 contains 10 CRDs for which the specific ligands remain to be identified. The human and murine DEC-205 share 77% identity, and their expression is primarily restricted to DCs and thymic cortical epithelium, although human DEC-205 can also be detected on peripheral T and B cells (Kato et al, 2006). A distinguishing feature of DEC-205 is its highlevel expression on DCs in the T-cell areas of lymphoid organs, suggesting a role in regulating T-cell responses.…”
