Expression of Focal Adhesion Proteins in the Developing Rat Kidney

Abstract: SummaryFocal adhesions play a critical role as centers that transduce signals by cell-matrix interactions and regulate fundamental processes such as proliferation, migration, and differentiation. Focal adhesion kinase (FAK), paxillin, integrin-linked kinase (ILK), and hydrogen peroxide-inducible clone-5 (Hic-5) are major proteins that contribute to these events. In this study, we investigated the expression of focal adhesion proteins in the developing rat kidney. Western blotting analysis revealed that the pro… Show more

“…By using overexpressed HEK293T cells, both EPLIN isoforms interacted with paxillin (data not shown), indicating that the N-terminus of EPLIN b is not required for the interaction. In human glomeruli, signals for paxillin, which is expressed in both podocytes and mesangial cells, 15 partially overlapped with those of EPLIN in mesangial cells ( Figure 4d).…”

“…The intricate function of glomerular filtration depends on podocyte adhesion both at cell junctions of slit diaphragms and at the interface with the matrix . The podocyte focal adhesion connected to the GBM controls the podocyte architecture by acting as anchor points for assembly of the actin cytoskeleton . The intracellular assembly of multi‐proteins of focal adhesion is connected to the actin cytoskeleton .…”

“…[33] The podocyte focal adhesion connected to the GBM controls the podocyte architecture by acting as anchor points for assembly of the actin cytoskeleton. [9,34] The intracellular assembly of multi-proteins of focal adhesion is connected to the actin cytoskeleton. [3,8] This study found that the glucose loading curtailed the podocyte induction of the adaptor proteins and cytoskeletal proteins of paxillin, vinculin, talin1, FAK, and Src localized at the focal adhesions.…”

“…Primitive mesenchyme in It has been found in some of the previous studies that, most of the ECM proteins were expressed after induction [16]. Fibronectin alongside laminin plays a role for the regulation of cell migration [27,28] where these molecules have to be hydrated by glycosaminoglycans.…”
