Expression of cyclin D2, P53, Rb and ATM cell cycle genes in brain tumors

Abstract: Cyclin D2, P53, Rb and ATM as cell cycle genes regulate cell growth and proliferation. Considering their roles, we assumed that they have different level of mRNA expression in different grades of brain tumors. To determine this point, we investigated the mRNA expression in two types of brain tumors, including astrocytoma and meningioma. The mRNA of 52 brain tumor samples were extracted; cyclin D2, P53, Rb and ATM mRNA expression was quantified using the real-time quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase c… Show more

“…In addition, previous studies have confirmed that tumor suppressor gene p53 plays a critical role in the regulation of its downstream genes and cell cycle progression (25). Accordingly, we further investigated p53 protein expression and cell cycle-related biomarkers including p21, Cdc25A, Cdc2, and P-Cdc2.…”

“…By considering the importance of protein-and mRNA-expression of ATM gene in brain tumors [15,20], and due to the common involvement of the D1853N polymorphism of ATM gene in brain tumors [15,20], expression assay might be also included as part of the complementary investigation in the patients affected with primary breast cancer in the future studies as well.…”

“…Previous studies have suggested that the p53 gene serves an important role in the regulation of cell cycle progression (15)(16)(17). Therefore, the protein expression levels of p53 and its downstream target gene p21, as well as CDK2, cyclin A and cyclin E cell cycle mediators were investigated following exposure of eosinophils to 0, 80 or 160 µM resveratrol for 48 h. Western blot analysis demonstrated that the protein expression levels of p53 (P=0.0378; P=0.0085), and p21 (P=0.0327; P= 0.0054) were significantly increased following treatment with 80 and 160 µM resveratrol when compared with untreated controls (Fig.…”
