Expression of CD10 in Malignant Müllerian Mixed Tumors and Adenosarcomas: An Immunohistochemical Study

Abstract: CD10 has been demonstrated to be positive in endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) and thus is useful in establishing the diagnosis, but its expression in malignant müllerian mixed tumor (MMMT) and müllerian adenosarcoma remains to be clarified. In this study, 12 cases of MMMT (9 uterine, 2 tubal, and 1 metastatic), 6 cases of müllerian adenosarcoma (three corporeal, two cervical, and one tubal), and 7 cases of primary uterine sarcomas had their tissues examined immunohistochemically for expression of CD10, desmin… Show more

“…These fi ndings suggest that CD10 has a wide distribution in various cell types, and that its diagnostic usefulness is limited in surgical pathology. However, it has been proposed that CD10 immunostaining is a useful marker in the differential diagnosis of follicular carcinomas [15] , renal cell carcinoma versus adrenocortical carcinoma [2] , clear cell carcinoma involving renal and ovarian tissues [2,7,14] , endometrial stromal tumors [7,10,12] , müllerian system derived tumors [12] , and mesonephric and trophoblastic tumors [7] .…”

“…Immunohistochemically, CD10 is considered to be the most commonly recognized positive marker for MA [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]; however, WT-1, ER, and PR are also often…”

“…In the female genital tract, CD10 reacts with endocervical and endometrial stromal cells, Wolffian remnants, and luteinized cells as well as with benign and malignant endocervical glandular lesions, endometrial adenocarcinomas, mullerian mixed tumors, endometrial stromal tumors, smooth muscle tumors, Wolffian tumors and sex-cord stromal tumors of the ovary. [39][40][41][42][43][44] Our findings revealed extensive CD10 positivity in all MTsV (13 out of 13). To date, only one other very recent case report has shown CD10 positivity in MTsV.…”
