Expression of CC chemokine receptor 9 predicts poor prognosis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma

Abstract: BackgroundThe CC chemokine receptor 9 (CCR9) plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis in various cancers. Our previous studies have shown the aberrant expression of CCR9 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines, revealing that the CCR9-CCL25 axis modulates cell migration and invasion, and supports cancer cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the expression and possible prognostic role of CCR9 in lung adenocarcinoma.MethodsI… Show more

“…In conclusion, disruption of the CCR9/ CCL25 axis in tumor bearers may affect homeostasis of the common lymphoid system and compromise the delicate balance between gut and systemic immunity (45). Nonetheless, several observations point to a cellautonomous role of CCR9/CCL25 in cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastatic dissemination as well as in PI3Kdependent resistance to chemotherapy (46)(47)(48)(49)(50)(51). Enforced CCR9 expression on colorectal cancer cells dictated their niching in mouse intestines after xenografting, whereas CCL25 blockade enhanced liver metastases (52).…”

“…Similarly, CCR9 could be beneficial in predicting lymph node metastasis and prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma ( 67 ). Adenocarcinoma cells revealed a higher migratory and invasive potential in response to CCL25, compared with squamous cell carcinoma cells, which had lower expression of CCR9 and CCL25 ( 68 ).…”

“…Chemokine receptors are seven transmembrane-spanning heterotrimeric G protein-coupled receptors that are mainly expressed on both immune cells and other nonimmune cells, such as tumor cells and endothelial cells 8 . Chemokines and chemokine receptors interact with each other to stimulate the migration of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, endothelial cells and mesenchymal stem cells as well as tumor progression, angiogenesis and metastasis 9 .…”
