Expression malondialdehyde (MDA) of brain after injury with the extract of kencur (Kaempferia Galanga L)

Abstract: Neurological damage in brain injury occurs due to secondary brain injury. Kencur extract has antioxidant potential with total phenolic and flavonoid content including luteolin apigenin and is expected to reduce MDA expression to prevent secondary injury. This study is an experimental laboratory. The treatment of all samples was carried out simultaneously using a post-test-only control group design. Based on the ANOVA test, the significance value of the Kencur extract treatment group was 0.000 (p<0.05) indic… Show more

“…These results are contradictory to previous study by Gupta-Wadhwa et al, 22 where sodium hypochlorite showed higher effectiveness as compared to cinnamon extract. This can be attributed to a lower concentration of sodium hypochlorite used in the present study as compared to other study. [15][16][17][18][19][20][21] The present study showed similar results in relation to comparison of neem and sodium hypochlorite.…”

“…It shows a wide spectrum of action against gram positive and gram negative oraganism.Cinnamon also known as C. zeylanicum has gained popularity in recent time due its antibacterial activity. The antibacterial action of cinnamon is due to the presence of vanillic, caffeic, gallic, protocatechuic, pcoumaric, and ferulic acids in the extracts. [16][17][18][19][20] It has shown effectiveness against S. mutans and E. fecalis organisms. It is also known to show a wide spectrum of action on gram positive and gram negative organism. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to compare neem extract, cinnamon extract and sodium hypochlorite as irrigant. The comparison is based on the effectiveness of these irrigants against E. fecalis in extracted permanent teeth.…”

“…The results of our study agree with studies 26,27 . Astudy El-belbasy et al, which was conducted on rats when fed with lead acetate 50 mg/kg for six weeks, indicated raise in the level of lipids in the blood serum 28 due to the role of lead in disrupting the lipoprotein receptors on the cell surface or restricting lipase enzyme action ( Hepatic lipoprotein), which leads to severe disturbances in the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates 29 , and lead reduces the activity of cytochrome P-450, which is necessary for the biosynthesis pathway of bile acids (which is the main pathway in the body to remove cholesterol from the body 30 Lead acetate leads to raise in the level of lipids in the serum either by increasing the biosynthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting several enzymes in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway in liver cells such as Hydroxy Diphosphate Synthase-3 or by reducing the breakdown of cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme Cholesterol-7a Hydroxylase, which leads to an increase in serum cholesterol 31 . results of the present study in Table (1) showed an increase (P<0.05) in the rate of (HDL) and decrease (P<0.05) in the rate of (Tc) , (Tg) and of LDL in G3 and G4 group compared with the (G2). results of the current study agree with what studies have indicated 32,33,34 . Studies have indicated that ginseng improves the high level of lipids in the blood serum by increasing acetyl-CoA carboxylase and the phosphorylation of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase, also stimulates the process of lipolysis by activating (AMPK), saponins in ginseng increases the Secretion of cholesterol through the formation of bile acids and thus reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood 35,36 .…”
