Expression and Prognostic Value of Aquaporin 1, 3 in Cervical Carcinoma in Women of Uygur Ethnicity from Xinjiang, China

Abstract: BackgroundOverexpression of several aquaporins has been reported in different types of human cancer but the role of aquaporins in carcinogenesis has not yet been clearly defined. There is few report concerning role of aquaporins in human cervical carcinogenesis so far. Here, we determined the expression and prognostic value of aquaporin 1, 3 in cervical carcinoma in Chinese women of Uygur ethnicity. Methods and ResultsReal-time PCR analyses demonstrated aquaporin 1, 3 mRNA were differentially expressed in cervi… Show more

“…Chen et al reported water metabolism through AQP1 and AQP3 was maintained during neoplastic transformation in human cervical carcinoma. AQP overexpression may increase tumor cells permeability to water to alter tumor cell volume and shape . Our immunohistochemical assay showed that AQP1 protein was expressed mainly in vascular endothelial cell, and also localized in the interstitial cell and cervical cancer tissues.…”

“…AQP1-expressing tumor cells have enhanced metastatic potential and increased local infiltration compared with those lacking AQP1 [6,19,20] . Knockdown of AQP1 in osteosarcoma cells can inhibit cell proliferation and significantly arrest cell cycle G1.…”

“…Moreover, it is confirmed that aquaporin 1 plays an active role in carcinogenesis, with an involvement in cell migration, proliferation, and angiogenesis [56][57][58][59]. Collectively, the facts mentioned above may account for much interest in identification of aquaporin 1 as a potential marker for MPM.…”
