Expression and Prognostic Characteristics of Ferroptosis-Related Genes in Colon Cancer

Abstract: Ferroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death, which occurs with iron dependence. Previous studies have showed that ferroptosis plays an important regulatory role in the occurrence and development of tumors. Colon cancer is one of the major morbidities and causes of mortality in the world. This study used RNA-seq and colon cancer clinical data to explore the relationship between ferroptosis-related genes and colon cancer. Based on the fifteen prognostic ferroptosis-related genes, two molecular subgroups o… Show more

“…In contrast, FANCD2 was found to be a ferroptosis suppressor in bone marrow injury by regulating the expression of iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation-related genes ( 30 ). FANCD2 was identified as a prognostic gene associated with poor prognosis in colon cancer, lung adenocarcinoma, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and glioma ( 31 34 ). PTGS2 , also known as COX-2 , was identified as an upregulated ferroptosis marker during ferroptosis ( 11 ).…”

“…NOX1 is also included in the ferroptosis gene set. The potential of NOX1 as a ferroptosis-related predictor has been analyzed in many cancers ( Zhu et al, 2021 ; Zhu and Yang, 2021 ). In the rhabdomyosarcoma cell ( Dächert and Ehrenfeld, 2020 ) and non-small lung cancer cell model, NOX1 can affect lipid peroxidation, ROS production, and other aspects to participate in ferroptosis signal transduction.…”

“…15 ferroptosis-related genes (FRG) were used for designing a prognosis model recently. It is discovered that highly expressed CISD1, GSS, and FDFT1 are associated with better prognosis, but PEBP1 is related to poor prognosis in stage II colon cancer patients [ 62 ]. In another research, a novel model for colon cancer including 7 FRGs was designed.…”
