Expression analysis and single-nucleotide polymorphisms of <i>SYNDIG1L</i> and <i>UNC13C</i> genes associated with thoracic vertebral numbers in sheep (<i>Ovis aries</i>)

Abstract: Abstract. The objective of the current study was to analyze expression levels of synapse differentiation inducing 1-like (SYNDIG1L) and unc-13 homolog C (UNC13C) genes in different tissues, while single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of two genes were associated with multiple thoracic vertebrae traits in both Small-tailed Han sheep (STH) and Sunite sheep (SNT). The expression levels of SYNDIG1L and UNC13C were analyzed in the brain, cerebellum, heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, adrenal gland, uterine horn, … Show more

“…This last SNP is within the mahogunin ring finger 1 gene ( MGRN1 ) and the s45225.1 SNP is at 11,375 bases distance from the synapse differentiation inducing 1-like gene ( SYNDIG1L ). This gene codes for an integral membrane protein, which in previous studies was reported as associated with traits related to teat number in pigs [ 67 ] and to the number of thoracic vertebrae in sheep [ 68 ]. The MGRN1 gene codes for the E3 ubiquitin ligase that participates in metallic ions union.…”

“…In sheep, genetic variants within the KSR2 gene have been linked to body size and muscle development ( Purfield et al, 2017 ). Gene expression analysis and single-nucleotide polymorphisms in UNC13C (Unc-13 Homolog C) genes linked to the thoracic vertebral number and the immune system in sheep ( Mousel et al, 2021 ; Zhong et al, 2021 ). PEBP4 (Phosphatidylethanolamine Binding Protein 4) is a member of an evolutionarily conserved family of proteins that perform important biological functions such as lipid binding and inhibition of serine proteases.…”

“…We first reviewed the literature to understand the three hub genes. Unc13c was widely expressed in 11 tissues, including brain, cerebellum, heart, and liver [24]. Unc13c is a protective gene against AD, and it may be involved in synaptic plasticity and synaptic transmission [25].…”
