Exposure to environmental microbiota explains persistent abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome after a major flood

Abstract: BackgroundAfter an environmental disaster, the affected community is at increased risk for persistent abdominal pain but mechanisms are unclear. “…We then applied a machine learning method (Random Forest) to our genus level data set, identifying Catenibacterium and Megamonas as bacterial discriminants of aggressive behavior. Respectively belonging to the families Erysipelotrichaceae and Veillonellaceae, Catenibacterium and Megamonas have been recently correlated with primary bile acid metabolism and abdominal pain in humans [4244], suggesting a possible connection between a dysbiotic GM profile and behavioral disorders.
