The prime purpose of the article is to revisit past studies related to the link between export instability, export diversification, and economic growth. In this regard, an extensive literature survey has been made across academic journals that provided structured, comprehensive, and chronological findings and results. The authors have examined and reviewed the full text of eighty‐eight important and relevant research articles published in various scholarly journals. Most of the articles provided robust evidence about positive impact of export diversification on economic growth and mixed results regarding the impact of export instability on economic growth. The paper also attempts to find the areas where the existing literature is silent or throws light that needs to be further examined with future research in this area. Since literature gives little evidence on various aspects of export diversification and economic growth from the perspective of a group of emerging economies identified by UNCTAD and IMF, therefore, the article recommends future research in this context to explore this less unexplored area.

The diversification of canned asparagus exports reveals the importance of this product both economically and gastronomically, therefore, it constitutes a multidimensional problem in the field of international trade. In Peru, the problem is manifested in the need to identify and access new markets to guarantee greater stability and resilience in the face of market fluctuations, taking advantage of the productive potential and the quality of the national offer. Therefore, the analysis of the diversification of exports of canned asparagus in the period 2013-2022 has been carried out in this work, through basic research with a quantitative approach, of a non-experimental, descriptive design based on the documentary analysis through data extracted through the portal of the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration. This analysis reveals that there is a decrease in weight from 47.7 thousand tons in 2013 to 29.7 thousand tons in 2017, and in FOB value from 150.1 million USD to 99.3 million USD, also that there is a growing concentration in export markets and shows us a decrease in the number of companies that export, which could be indicative of business consolidation. Therefore, export diversification could represent an economic strategy to mitigate these risks and promote long-term economic resilience. Taking this into account, it is recommended to strengthen the competitiveness of exporting companies, product diversification and quality. The exploration of new markets would also help diversify importing countries, thus reducing dependence on specific markets.

This quantitative descriptive study examined the diversification of asparagus exports in Peru using the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI). The results show a clear dominance of the United States as the main export destination, although there was an annual decrease of 6.7% in 2022. The HHI revealed a growing trend towards greater market concentration in Peruvian asparagus exports. At the company level, despite a general decrease in the number of exporting companies, significant growth was observed in some of them, such as Agrícola Cerro Prieto and Agrovision. Based on these results, it is recommended that Peruvian companies seek further diversification of their export markets to minimize dependence on a single market and develop adaptable and resilient business strategies to cope with a constantly evolving market.
