Abstract:PurposeThis study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Cyberbullying Attitude Scale (CBAS) in Indian college students with the help of two independent studies.Design/methodology/approachThe first study investigated the factorial validity of the scale using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), resulting in a seven-item, two-component model of CBAS. Two statements were excluded owing to inadequate factor loading. The second study evaluated the reliability and cr… Show more
“…This broadened behaviour helps individuals develop social and psychological resources like self-resilience, optimism, hope and confidence . Social resources comprise trust, loyalty, respect and love for family, peers and others Bansal et al, 2022). On the other hand, psychological resources like hope and optimism may help the perpetrators and victims deal with shame and guilt arising out of weight-based teasing.…”

“…The incidences of weight-related teasing are both psychologically and physically wounding, especially when near and dear ones like parents are the perpetrators (Dahill et al, 2021). Victims can suffer from depression (Wright, 2018) and counterproductive work behaviour (Bansal et al, 2022). A study by Eisenberg et al (2003) suggested that the subjects (91.7%) whose parents or peers teased developed depressive symptoms in contrast to those who were not.…”

“…Researchers like Garg and Sarkar (2020) have also suggested that gratitude promotes vitality in Indian college students. Thus, gratitude can be used as one of the interventions to promote positive behaviour and hinder the ill effects of events like teasing, cyberbullying (Bansal et al, 2022) and depression. Eisenberg et al (2011) discuss the impact of weight-based teasing perpetrated by family or significant others and suggest methods to combat it.…”

“…When we consider college students, they have relatively more freedom, and their increased use of information communication technology (ICT) has made them a target of the same even through social networking sites (SNS) (Verma et al, 2022). Consequently, this has also resulted in the increased reporting of mental health issues among college students (Bansal et al, 2022). Further, it is also suggested in Beck's (1967) cognitive theory on depression that people tend to evaluate events negatively due to their systematic bias in the thinking process (Mcleod, 2015) and their experiences foster their behaviours and vice versa.…”

“…One such issue is depression. Depression is not a new subject of study for scientists around the globe (Bansal et al ., 2022). Still, the rising cases of depression pose a significant concern to researchers and medical practitioners (Santomauro et al ., 2021).…”
PurposeThis instant study explores the relationship between weight-based teasing and depressive symptoms in Indian college students. It further investigates the moderating effect of gratitude on depressive symptoms occurring due to weight-based teasing.Design/methodology/approachThe study is theoretically based on Fredrickson's broaden-and-built theory (2001). PROCESS macro in IBM SPSS v21 was used to analyze the effect of gratitude in moderation of weight-based teasing and depressive symptoms. The study used correlation and regression analysis to assess the relationship between weight-based teasing and depressive symptoms.FindingsThe study has confirmed that weight-based teasing results in the development of depressive symptoms in Indian college students. The study has also revealed that gratitude casts a significant moderating effect on depression due to weight-based teasing, i.e. a reduction in regression weight of weight-based teasing.Originality/valueThis study is the first of its kind in India and will significantly add to the national literature on teasing and depression. Further, the study will help stakeholders like educators and policymakers to formulate psychological programs based on positive psychology 2.0 and gratitude to combat the rising issue of body shaming in India.

The present study reviewed gratitude at work articles published in Scopus database using bibliometric analysis to examine growth in gratitude at work publications and citations, most cited publications, most influential authors, articles, publishers, universities and countries. The extracted data were analysed and visualised with the help of two analytical tools, that is, the Scopus analysis and VOSviewer (version 1.6.16). It identified 273 publications referring to gratitude at work in title, abstract, or keywords. The keyword co‐occurrence highlighted four major clusters of workplace gratitude research: Psychological studies, Customer relationship management, Employees, and Ethics and spirituality.
This study explores the psychometric properties of the transpersonal gratitude scale (TGS) in the Indian context. It also examines the relationship between transpersonal gratitude, spiritual well-being, and distress. The psychometric properties (reliability and validity) of the TGS were evaluated with the help of two studies. In the first study, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) reported a four-factor solution. These four factors- expression of gratitude, value of gratitude, transcendent gratitude, and spiritual connection- explained 74.1% of the total variance. Further, CFA results indicated an excellent model fit of four-factor structure derived from EFA. These findings recommended appropriate factorial validity of TGS in the Indian context. In the second study, Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability values recommended reliability of TGS among Indians. Also, the average variance explained (AVE) values and the Fornell–Larcker test concluded convergent and discriminant validity of the scale. In addition, positive correlations were reported between TGS, GRAT-16 (gratitude resentment and appreciation scale), and spiritual well-being scale scores. Also, a negative linkage was reported between TGS and distress score. These associations established criterion validity of the scale. Overall, the scale reported acceptable psychometric properties in the Indian context.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
