Climate change brings severe impact to frontier Asia in the shape of its significant negative effect on workability and livability. Drawing on the upper echelon theory (UET), this study aims to investigate the mechanism and conditional factors of a sustainable leadership–environmental performance relationship. Employing cluster sampling, this study has collected data from small and medium enterprises in frontier Asian countries—Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. In this study, the authors have collected 245 valid responses with a response rate of 41%. The authors have employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis to test the proposed hypothesis. The present empirical findings confirm the significant effect of sustainable leadership on environmental innovation and the significant effect of environmental innovation on environmental performance. The current study confirms that sustainable leaders indirectly influence environmental performance through environmental innovation. Nevertheless, its effect on environmental innovations does not amplify in the presence of managerial discretion. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first in its nature that has explored the integrated role of sustainable leadership, environmental innovation, managerial discretion, and environmental performance. Limitations and implications have been listed at the end of the study.

Configurational Paths of Leadership Competency Shortages and 4.0 Leadership Effectiveness: An fs/QCA Study

This study examines various leadership competency shortages, such as shortages in strategic perspective; critical analysis and self-vision; managing resources, communication, and achieving results; empowering and developing teams; self-awareness and intuitiveness; and sensitivity—all of which influence problems with 4.0 leadership effectiveness. The effectiveness of 4.0 leadership was assessed in the article in relation to the effectiveness of the leadership style and its relevance to Industry 4.0. The data sample considered 86 small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Poland. The analysis used a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) methodology, which allows for identifying a configuration of causes that lead to the analysed outcome. The innovativeness of the research carried out lies in the fact that the authors examined the relations of deficiencies (gaps) of certain features attributed to leaders which are dependent on each other and which determine the effectiveness of the leader. The results support the argument that different configurations of leadership competency shortages lead to low 4.0 leadership effectiveness. Almost all configurations had a low leadership competence related to strategic perspective. The position we present regarding the configurations of competency shortages and leadership effectiveness is important for considering the development of the profile of leaders in organizations. The research presented complements the characteristics of leaders in the context of building an Industry 4.0 organization.

This study examined the effect of business environmental factors on organizational performance in the COVID-19 era. The research employed a quantitative cross-sectional analytic design rooted in positivism philosophy to gain a comprehensive understanding of the research problem. The target population for this research consisted of employees from manufacturing organizations registered with the Apex Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN). The sample size was 300 employees from selected manufacturing companies in Ogun State. The study employed questionnaires. The questionnaire was a five (5) point Likert scale of strongly agree to strongly disagree. The data underwent content and construct validation to ensure its suitability for the study's purpose. The reliability of the measurement instrument was assessed using the Cronbach Alpha reliability test. Smart PLS Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses. The results demonstrate that market performance has a significant relationship with the internal business environment, and that task business environment significantly influenced financial performance. Based on the result, the study recommended that Nigeria's manufacturing and service companies leverage the internal environment for market performance and that the task business environment is one of the prospects for the improved financial performance of the manufacturing firms.
