The aim of this study is to present, based on a systematic review of the literature, an analysis of the impact of the application of the ChatGPT tool in education. The data were obtained by reviewing the results of studies published since the launch of this application (November 2022) in three leading scientific databases in the world of education (Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar). The sample consisted of 12 studies. Using a descriptive and quantitative methodology, the most significant data are presented. The results show that the implementation of ChatGPT in the educational environment has a positive impact on the teaching–learning process, however, the results also highlight the importance of teachers being trained to use the tool properly. Although ChatGPT can enhance the educational experience, its successful implementation requires teachers to be familiar with its operation. These findings provide a solid basis for future research and decision-making regarding the use of ChatGPT in the educational context.

Amidst the buzz of technological advancement in education, our study unveils a more disconcerting narrative surrounding student chatbot interactions. Our investigation has found that students, primarily driven by intrinsic motivations like competence and relatedness, increasingly lean on chatbots. This dependence is not just a preference but borders on an alarming reliance, magnified exponentially by their individual risk perceptions. While celebrating AI's rapid integration in education is tempting, our results raise urgent red flags. Many hypotheses were supported, pointing toward a potential over-dependence on chatbots. Nevertheless, the unpredictable outcomes were most revealing, exposing the unpredictable terrain of AI's role in education. It is no longer a matter of if but how deep the rabbit hole of dependency goes. As we stand on the cusp of an educational revolution, caution is urgently needed. Before we wholly embrace chatbots as primary educators, it is imperative to understand the repercussions of replacing human touch with AI interactions. This study serves as a stark wake-up call, urging stakeholders to reconsider the unchecked integration of chatbots in learning environments. The future of education may very well be digital, but at what cost to human connection and autonomy?

Technology advancements like Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) have given the educational sector new advantages as well as difficulties and demands. Academics often differ on the benefits and effectiveness of implementing ChatGPT in the classroom. It is important for students who use ChatGPT in classroom learning to express their views on the use of ChatGPT. Therefore, this study aims to explore students’ perspectives in higher education towards utilizing ChatGPT as support for learning in the digital era. A mixed-methods—quantitative and qualitative research design is being used in this study. Forty-five University of Mataram Indonesia students studying elementary school teacher education participated in the research. Interviews and the distribution of questionnaires were used to collect research data. The conclusion of this study states that students find it easy to use ChatGPT. The use of ChatGPT is considered to increase their knowledge, provide fast and accurate answers to questions, and is able to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of learning time. In addition, students stated that the use of ChatGPT can provide additional motivation in the learning process. However, they have not been able to become more motivated to learn by using ChatGPT. They worry about unjust evaluations and the possibility of plagiarism, which can weaken one’s capacity for critical thought. Based on the study’s findings, experts recommend more investigation into ChatGPT’s potential to improve student motivation in the classroom.
