Exploring the intellectual cores of the blockchain–Internet of Things (BIoT)

Abstract: PurposeDue to the rapid growth of blockchain technology in recent years, the fusion of blockchain and the Internet of Things (BIoT) has drawn considerable attention from researchers and industrial practitioners and is regarded as a future trend in technological development. Although several authors have conducted literature reviews on the topic, none have examined the development of the knowledge structure of BIoT, resulting in scattered research and development (R&D) efforts.Design/methodology/approachThi… Show more

“…Blockchain and IoT are regarded as two contemporary state-of-the-art technologies, while their hybridisation draws significant attention to create reliable, secure and trustworthy information systems [ 11 , 12 ]. On the one hand, IoT is an amalgamation of smart devices, machines and systems to interconnect physical objects, namely things and digital platforms over the Internet [ 13 , 14 ].…”

“…Constraints (10) and (11) ensure the truck capability is sufficient to handle the delivery of usable pallets and collection of damaged pallets. Constraint (12) refers to the subtour elimination, in which the set U is the subset of the user set I, and the minimum number of vehicles needed to serve set U is equal to 1. Lastly, Constraint (13) shows the binary integrality to the decision variables.…”

“…Singh et al [ 14 ] used blockchain and artificial intelligence to design and develop IoT architectures to support effective big data analysis. Tsang et al [ 15 ] explored the intellectual cores of the blockchain–Internet of Things (BIoT). Zhang et al [ 16 ] proposed an e-commerce model for IoT E-business to realize the transaction of smart property.…”

“…Technological interoperability considers how technologies can complement each other allowing for enhancement beyond a single technology for performance management. As an example, linking IoT, AI and blockchain can offer synergistic and complementary capabilities (Kshetri, 2019; Tsang et al , 2021). The outcomes of the relationships are critical as well – in this case the outcomes may also include performance to determine the effectiveness of digitization and PMS.…”
