Exploring the Capability of Synthesized PVP-Oxime for Corrosion Inhibition of a Mild Steel Surface in a 1 M H2SO4 Solution

Abstract: Polyvinylpyrrolidone Oxime (PVPO) was synthesized and studied for mild steel (MS) corrosion inhibition in 1 M H2SO4, at different concentrations and temperatures. The corrosion inhibition efficiency was studied using weight loss method, polarization technique, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and quantum chemical calculations. The results from weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and EIS showed that the inhibition efficiency (I. E.) increased with gradual in… Show more

“…Similarly, Sainia et al, synthesized Polyvinylpyrrolidone Oxime (PVPO) to test its ability as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 M H2SO4, at different concentrations and temperatures. The highest corrosion efficiency was found to be 88.39%, with a concentration of 1000 ppm, and a temperature of 303 K (Sainia et al, 2020).…”

“…Others have investigated the corrosion inhibition efficiency (CIE) of chitosan for MS in hydrochloric acid, [ 15 ] glucose‐based polymer, [ 16 ] Pectin for steel in acid, [ 17 ] and chitin for steel in the acid, [ 18 ] PVP for CS in the HCl medium, [ 19 ] PVP as for CS in salt solution, [ 20 ] PVP for CS in the HCl medium, [ 21 ] PVP‐Oxime for MS in the H 2 SO 4 medium. [ 22 ] Libya‐based Morus nigra L. was investigated as CI for MS in 1.0 M HCl and a maximum of 94.9 % CIE was achieved at 10 % plant extract. [ 23 ] Black Mulberry leaves extract was investigated as CI for the aluminum metal in 2 M HCl solution and shows a 93 % CIE at 2000 ppm of plant extract.…”

“…Improving the recovery factor of tight oil reservoirs can effectively alleviate energy problems such as insufficient energy supply. Acidification is one of the important measures for oil well stimulation [1,2]. However, the acid used in acidification usually contains strong corrosiveness, which will destroy the oxide film on the metal surface and increase the probability of pitting corrosion on the metal surface, seriously damaging tubing and mechanical equipment, thus prolonging the workover period and increasing the economic cost [3], and may also lead to downhole safety accidents.…”
